A Maryland family with two gay dads and four adopted children was included in the latest issue of American Girl magazine. The awesome family founded a charity called Comfort Cases, which gives foster kids travel bags filled with clothing and toiletries. On the homepage of the charity, one of the fathers from the family writes:
I remember the first day my daughter Amaya came to stay with us. She was four years old, moving into her third foster home and carrying her entire life in a white trash bag. We took her out to buy new clothes and she picked out a Cinderella nightgown.
11-year-old Amaya Scheer was so excited that her family was included in the magazine — until she heard about the group demanding a “boycott” of their issue. What kind of group would demand a boycott of a magazine because of a story about a loving couple who made room in their lives for four foster children — and started a charity to help many, many others? One Million Moms, of course. If you have the good fortune of having never heard of these women, they are an organization that basically scans all popular media from televisions shows to commercials to magazines, to find something to be offended about. This week, they’re offended by two loving fathers who happen to be gay:
One Million Moms is extremely disappointed that American Girl, owned by Mattel, is promoting sin in the November/December 2015 issue of its magazine. On pages 28-31 of the magazine is an article titled “Forever Family” about adoption from foster care, which would have been wonderful if they had not decided to include a large picture of a girl with her two dads, Daddy and Dada, and three other adopted children.
The magazine also could have chosen another child to write about and remained neutral in the culture war.
The ladies then call for a total boycott, because there’s nothing worse than publishing a feel-good story about a happy placement for Foster children. Good grief.
The “moms” then go on to say “1MM supports adoption and taking care of orphans as we are biblically instructed to do.” Oh, shut up. No you don’t. You don’t work for orphans or make any other sort of charitable contribution to society. You bitch. You clutch your pearls. You complain. You attempt to censor. That’s it. Thats ALL you do. Unlike these two men who you deem “sinful” who are actually making a difference in the lives of children — and making the world a better place.
Rob and Reece Scheer have some choice words for the moms. They told WTTG:
“I would expect moms not to say these type of things about our family. But at the same time, these are a ‘million moms,’ they could really be helping the 364,000 kids in foster care… So to the Million Moms, I say to them, ‘You know what? Go to your local foster care agency, those kids could really use your help and not worry about the Sheer family.’” Their 11-year-old daughter has some words for the moms, too:
“This is none of your business.”
Yup. She hit the nail on the head.
