My childhood was pretty damn fun. Sure, there were hard moments but for every rough spot, there’s an equal and opposite bright spot. One of those bright spots was a game called Super Mario Bros. For those uninitiated few, this was the story of a plumber trying to save a princess from an evil dude/lizard/thing.
The history and creative brilliance of the man who created this game, and so many others, is super interesting. It sets the stage for the feeling of achievement I feel when “level up” in life. Video games made progress so linear and exciting. Learning a new skill, obtaining a rare item and making my way to harder classes were all parallels to my love of video games.
Listen to the way this inventor designed Mario and you may learn a couple of things about yourself.
What was your favorite game growing up? Do you still play video games?
