All parents know that Legos are synonymous with pain. Hurling a string of expletives into the night after stepping on a stray Lego is a right of passage of parenthood. Yes, Legos are actually mini parent-torture devices. We’ve all accepted it.
Lego, in its infinite wisdom, has teamed up with a French advertising agency and conceived of “Lego-proof slippers.” Or, as the rest of us refer to them… “slippers.”
Lego released a design for “anti-Lego-pain” slippers this week, and people are freaking out. Here’s how the slippers are described by CNET:
The squared-off slippers are interchangeable between right and left feet, which is handy when you’re fumbling for them in the dark.
They have an open back so they can be quickly shuffled onto your feet…
A massive amount of padding on the insoles protects your tootsies from even the biggest Lego pieces.
Genius! No one has ever conceived of such a thing! Padded objects that you slip around your feet and walk around the house in? What is this sorcery?
Oh, it’s a slipper. You know, those things we all already own?
Ignoring the fact that we all already own these, this is a pretty cute gift. Any parent would get a good laugh if they found these under the tree. Unfortunately, they’re not for sale. Huffpost reports “Brand Station is only producing 1,500 pairs of the slippers, which will be distributed randomly to people who fill out a Christmas wish list on the LEGO France website.”
It’s like Willy Wonka’s golden ticket of slippers.
You can try your luck with the Christmas wish list raffle, or just crazy glue some Legos to the top of those $10 slippers photographed above and call it a day. Then just be infinitely impressed that Lego managed to convince people everywhere that they invented the slipper.
Invent a slipper that collect loose Legos from all around the room as you walk — a Lego Roomba, if you will — then we’ll be really impressed, Lego.
