Oh Look! Here’s Our President Sexually Harassing A Female Reporter

NBD, just our President being gross

Donald Trump was completely inappropriate with Irish reporter Caitriona Perry during a call with Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar. The exchange, which happened in front of a room of other reporters, is cringeworthy.

Perry tweeted video of the exchange after it happened. She simply captioned it, “Video of the bizarre moment when President @realDonaldTrump called me over during his call with Taoiseach Varadkar.”

“Well we have a lot of Irish press watching this,” Trump says into the phone. “They’re just now leaving the room.”  Then he calls Perry over.

“And where are you from, go ahead, come here. Come here. Where are you from,” he leers. “We have all of this beautiful Irish press.”

“I’m from RTE News, the Taoiseach will know me. Caitriona Perry.” Perry says, laughing uncomfortably.

“Caitriona Perry,” Trump repeats into the phone. “She has a nice smile on her face, so I bet she treats you well.”

For those of you who see how problematic this exchange is, I’ll just say, I KNOW, RIGHT? GROSS. For those of you who don’t, let’s have a little sit down.

Trump and Perry are having an exchange in a professional space. His initial remarks are condescending, infantilizing, and diminishing. “And where are you from, go ahead, come here. Come here. Where are you from?” he beckons. This is something you would expect to be said to a child. “Hey, little lady, what’s your name? Aren’t you pretty.”

The second half of his statement is straight up sexual harassment. “She has a nice smile on her face, so I bet she treats you well.” EW. No. Imagine a time when this would ever be said to a man. It wouldn’t. The end.

The fact that Trump has no issue doing this in front of a room full of reporters shows us how removed from decency he is. He genuinely doesn’t have a problem belittling and harassing professional women. No woman should be put into this minimizing position — ever. Certainly not from the POTUS. Certainly not in front of a room full of her peers.

Welcome to being a woman in 2017 America.
