Under No Circumstances Should You Announce Someone Else’s Baby. Ever

Posting social media announcements ahead of your friends for their big milestones is a no-no. Just ask T.I.

Under no circumstances should you announce someone else’s baby. Ever. This is something that shouldn’t even need to be said, but thanks to social media and an itchy trigger finger, it happens.

In fact, it just happened to rapper/actor T.I. and his wife Tameka “Tiny” Cottle — and he’s pissed.

“What really pisses me off is that I’m in SouthCarolina & my wife just had our baby in Georgia which is really not something anybody could help & the fact that everybody gets to announce that ‘T.I. & Tiny welcomed their baby into the world’ EXCEPT T.I. & Tiny. Couldn’t even wait until we properly announced it but #Lucky7 is here!” People reports the rapper wrote in a Facebook post on Saturday that’s since been taken down. T.I.’s niece allegedly broke the news on Snapchat.

Tiny released a statement to people that said, “Yesterday, March 26th, at 2:58PM we welcomed a beautiful baby girl that weighed in at 5lbs. In true Harris fashion, our baby girl made us all HUSTLE, making a surprise early entrance.” The baby is the seventh child in the blended clan. She also cleared up that T.I. did make it in time for the birth.

But back to his niece announcing the birth for them — no. Just, no. This is some seriously bad social media etiquette, but unfortunately it’s totally believable, because this type of thing happens all the time.

Here is a general rule that should be followed: big life milestone photos should only be posted by those who are direct participants in the big life milestone. For example, new parents. Or the actual bride and groom — not the wedding party or a guest. How many times have you seen a fuzzy snap of your friend’s wedding day? A bride should not have to worry about the first image released onto social media of her big day being a fuzzy photo where she has a double chin.

When it comes to babies, there are two people that made that human, and have been waiting to unveil that human to the world. Excited aunts and uncles: back off. Grandma? You too. Everyone just needs to chill out and let the couple make the big announcement.

Yes, we are all connected to our phones, yes they have cameras, and yes sites like Facebook and Snapchat make it super easy to share images. All the more reason to practice self control and don’t do it.
